Senior School Updates — May 31, 2024


Graduation Ceremony — June 14, 2024

It is a longstanding tradition for the whole school to celebrate the Graduating Class. We expect all students from Grades 8–11 to be in attendance as well as our Grads All students in Grades 8–11 are asked to report to their Advisory classrooms at 12:00 pm sharp, wearing their full Number One Uniform. The Graduation Ceremony will begin at 1:00 pm and will be completed by 4:00 pm. Students will be asked to help clean up following the ceremony and will be available to return home by 5:00 pm. A reminder that attendance is mandatory for all students. Student absence from the ceremony will only be approved by contacting Mr. Gurr, Senior School Principal, at: lgurr@stgeorges.bc.ca.
 
Buses will be available for students to return home departing at 5:00 pm. 




Textbook Returns

One of the final tasks for the 2023-24 school year is to return any St. George’s textbooks. The Senior School book room will be open from 8:00 am–3:30 pm every day starting Monday, June 10th–Friday, June 14th.

All textbooks must be returned by Friday, June 14th at 3:30 pm. Students may be charged for any missing textbooks. 






Grade 8-11 Year-End Assembly

On Thursday, June 6th from 1:00–3:00 pm, we will be celebrating the accomplishments of our Grade 8–11 students. Parents are invited to join the Assembly in Dixon Gym.




Grade 12 Capstone Presentations & Fair — June 3 & 4

Please join us in supporting the Grade 12 students in their upcoming Capstone Presentations and Fair. 
 
Capstone Presentations take place this Monday, June 3rd and Tuesday, June 4th during two blocks: 3:30–5:15 pm and 5:30–7:30 pm. Please click here for student presentation times and titles. We would love you to join us! Coffee, tea, water, and light snacks will be served in the Lower Great Hall in between sessions. 
 
You are also invited to the Capstone Fair on Monday, June 10th from 9:15–11:00 am in the Senior School gym. 
 
We hope you can join our Grade 12 students as they share their projects with the community.

Athletics Updates

We are having an incredible finish to a fantastic year for Saints Athletics! Here are some highlights and what is in store for our final week of the Spring season. 
 
Reminder — The Athletics Awards Night takes place on Wednesday, June 5th at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium. The Reception will begin at 6:00 pm. 
 
Badminton 
The Badminton Team heads to the BC Provincial Championships to be held at RE Mountain Secondary and or Walnut Grove Secondary School from May 30th—June 1st. They started with three matches on Day 1. Good luck, boys! Tournament schedule HERE.
 
Field Hockey
The Field Hockey Team wrapped up their exhibition season with a scrimmage on Tuesday at Hamber Secondary against the Vancouver Hawks. It was a fantastic season of development for the group. Thanks to all the players and coaches for a great term!
 
Golf
After successfully defending their VS2S Zone Championship title last week, the team looks for a three-peat at the BC Provincial Championship June 2nd-5th at the Arbutus Ridge GC on Vancouver Island. The team will be represented next week by Ryan Liang ‘24, William Hou ‘25, Jerry Li ‘26, Troy Gadalla ‘26, and Jacky Tang ‘27. Alternates will be Nathaniel Stuart ‘26 and Vincent Guo ‘26. Rowing
The Rowing Team is currently in St. Catharines, Ontario at their year-end CSSRA Regatta. Goodluck to all of our rowers and coaches as they compete at the National Championship. Follow @sgssaintsrowing Instagram for more updates!
 
Rugby
1st XV and 2nd XV
The 1st XV got off to an excellent start at the BCSS Provincial Championships (event info and schedule HERE) on Wednesday, when they took down GW Graham 34-0 in their opening game,  the Quarter Finals. They will play in the Provincial Semi Final on Thursday, May 30th at 7:00 pm vs. Oak Bay Secondary.

Junior A and Bs
The Junior Boys won their BC Provincials opener 29–12 over Kelowna on Tuesday. They lost their Semi-Final matchup in a nail-biter to Collingwood, 13-14, and will play for Bronze against South Delta on Friday the 31st in Abbotsford. Tennis
The Tennis Team finished off their season by winning the Provincial Championship, capturing the title on Saturday by defeating Vancouver College/ Little Flower Academy in the Finals, held at UBC! Congratulations to all players and Coaches Rutenberg, Macken, and Nykilchyk on a fantastic season capped off with a very deserving Provincial Banner!
 
Track and Field
Three athletes: Ian Tyler ‘27, Kiran Nielsen ‘24, and Henry Jagger ‘24 are competing this weekend in the Multi-Event Championships in Delta. Good luck, boys!

The Track and Field Team is set to send our Provincial Qualifiers to Nanaimo next week from June 6th–8th for their Championship Meet.

Ultimate
The Junior Team finished up their season with a Top-8 finish at the Tier 2 BC Invitational, while the Seniors cracked the Top-10 at their Invitational Tournament! Congratulations to all players and Coaches Ziff and Lee on a fantastic season!
 
Volleyball
The Grade 8 and 9 Teams are getting together this week for their final meetings to wrap up their seasons. Congratulations to the players and coaches from both teams on an excellent term filled with development! Congratulations as well to Senior Players Geoff G ‘24 and Joey Z ‘24 on finishing with a Bronze Medal at the Volleyball BC Lower Mainland High School Beach Open, which was held at Spanish Banks this past weekend. 
 
Water Polo
The Water Polo Team has their final ‘Friendly’ of the season at Central Park Pool on Sunday, June 2nd! Good luck, boys!
 
XC Mountain Biking
The XC Mountain Biking Team competed last week at the Provincial Championships in Squamish and Whistler, and our own Mikey D ‘24 took home Gold at the Senior Enduro race. Congrats to the entire MTB Team on a fantastic season, and special thanks to Coaches Webster and Sayers for their support on the North Shore and beyond!
