A Dynamic Foundation for Lifelong Learning

The Junior School is a joyful and energetic learning community where students are encouraged to follow their curiosity. It’s a place where boys explore, discover, create, collaborate, and have fun growing their love for learning.

From Kindergarten to Grade 7, students build a strong academic foundation while focusing on personal growth and social emotional learning. Soft skills such as critical thinking, communication, and creativity are embedded in all we do, creating kind and resilient young learners with a strong sense of character.

Our dedicated Junior School teachers get to know each student, tailoring learning to his strengths and interests. Because we know that a boy will succeed when his teacher and parents are partners in his learning, there are many opportunities for parent participation and conversation throughout the year.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten at St. George’s is a fun, safe, and nurturing environment where young students begin their education and spark a lifelong love for learning. Through this Reggio-inspired, play-based approach to learning, students explore their curiosity, discover new interests, and learn academic fundamentals.

Our Kindergarten teachers are experts in boys at this age, delivering a values-based program tailored to the whole child — supporting his intellectual, physical, and social development and preparing him for the next step in his education journey.

Primary: Grade 1–3

Students in the primary grades are curious, spirited, and high-energy. Our students learn and make meaningful connections through play and discovery. In addition to growing their numeracy fundamentals, there is a strong emphasis in the primary grades on early literacy, using shared language, and writing curriculum continuously from Kindergarten to Grade 3.

These young students are getting to know themselves as learners, building the skills to work both independently and collaboratively with their peers in dynamic learning environments across the Junior School — both in classrooms and learning commons, and outside on sports fields and in nature. In this community, students form strong bonds with their teachers: connections that are essential to their learning and engagement.

Intermediate: Grade 4–7

In the intermediate grades, students are encouraged to let inquiry lead their learning as they direct their energy towards their unique interests. From Grade 4–7, each student goes through a guided inquiry process every year. They may explore animal habitats or climate adaptations, learn about how cities are built, or ask how they can use science to better humanity. By asking questions, following their curiosity, and putting their skills into action, they find real-world connections to their learning that keep them engaged.

With daily physical education and a wide array of co-curricular activities, students have exciting learning opportunities to grow, learn, and discover who they want to become.
